Skiing in Chi-town

Last Sunday, Adam and I headed out for our first ski of the year. While we debated whether we should head to Wisconsin, the 'burbs, or even Indiana, we opted for a local ski, here in our town of residence.

Yes, there is cross-country skiing in Chi-town proper! While Adam and I tend to be the only ones who do this (besides a very spry 80 year old fellow who lives in Hyde Park who I've run into on past trips), skiing along Lake Michigan is fun and easy when there is enough snow (which is not often enough, sadly).

A few years back, we were on the Chicago evening news because we were skiing. It was one of those huge snowfalls that caused rush hour traffic problems that lasted well into the evening. There were reporters down in Hyde Park showing how bad the LSD traffic was. When they saw us they panned over and said as if they were really surprised "Some people found a way to enjoy this weather...by skiing!?!" I figure that since we live in a town that has winter for 6 months of the year, we better find fun things to do the snow! But, hopefully, in the next few years we can move to a town where people don't look at me like I have 2 heads or something when I'm skiing!

I brought my camera Sunday, but forgot to replace the battery w/ a fresh one, so these pics are from a few years back. Enjoy!

  1. I love cross-country skiing! Too bad it rarely snows enough here to let me do it. Looks like you guys had a blast though!

  2. That does look like fun - and it might make the cold weather tolerable - at least to some extent. It was 16 degrees when I left the house this morning - that's obscene! Stay warm!
