Memorial Day was my Grandma's X0th birthday and I was lucky enough to be able to attend the family party as part of my wonderful 3 day weekend. First, Adam and I endured an unpleasant day-after-the-marthon 1 miler then we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the Iron Horse. We didn't have to be anywhere for hours- it was so nice to sleep in, then read a bit, then be in no rush getting ready in the morning. I could really get used to 3 day weekends (I could even settle for 2 day weekends!)
We then wandered around the Lake Michigan shoreline in downtown Milwaukee. It was WARM but it was fun to wander without an agenda. My parents and grandmother met us and we decided it was a good time to thank my colleague for covering my patients for me so I could have the day off. I have such wonderful colleagues at Northwestern. Really stellar individuals in so many ways.
Then we headed to my Aunt Kathy and Uncle Mike's house for the party. It was great to see my aunts, uncles, and cousins, many of whom I hadn't seen in years. There were plenty of jokes, and definitely some gentle ribbing of the gracious birthday girl. She looked so happy!
Later we took a family photo, old school style. First, Grandma tried to boss us into organized submission. Then, we laughed as we waited and waited for my Dad who was the only party missing for the photo- turns out he had found a scarlet tanninger. Then finally a successful photo.

Where's Dad? Oh THERE he is! |
Everyone's eyes are open. Can you ask for more? |
All in all it was a great day. The G-J-G (Garrett, Jill, Gunner) clan were missed as was Kelly, but considering everyone's busy lives it was a good turn-out and it was great to catch up!
